Make More Time for Joy

When was the last time you did something purely because it brings you joy? Or how often do you wake up and feel demotivated before the day has even begun? The list could go on with the different scenarios we find ourselves in where our wellbeing takes a hit. But, with it being World Wellbeing Week, we decided it would be the perfect opportunity to share our thoughts and tips on how we can maintain our wellbeing.

Make the morning your friend - she’s actually good company!

We can hear the night-owls already hooting at us in disagreement, but stay with us! A positive morning experience can be the difference between a productive and progressive day, or a complete breakdown that ends in spiralling anxiety - are we right?

How many times have we overused the phrases ‘I’ve woken up on the wrong side of the bed’, or ‘I didn’t get off to a great start’ - and not forgetting the classic, ‘I’m just not a morning person’. By deciding to make a few small changes to the start of your day, it can positively influence how things follow in your daily routine, and most importantly...your wellbeing!

The morning can be a rejuvenating experience when you allow yourself time to embrace it. Why not create a morning ritual that motivates you to actually tear yourself from under the covers? Incorporating gentle movement, cleansing teas and juices, or even reflective journaling are some easy ways to start making mornings your friend.

Remember to Say Thank YOU

Choose an arm (preferably your own); lift arm upwards, bend at the elbow...now pat yourself on the back! If you are not appreciating yourself and your achievements then this is your reminder to start doing so. It is really easy to fall into the cycle of needing external voices of approval to feel like our efforts are validated. Of course we all need some recognition now and then, but the reality is we cannot be hooked up to an IV drip with a constant supply of validation from others. It starts with YOU.

Take a moment of reflection and list all the steps you have taken to lead you to this current moment. Each achievement deserves your recognition, and should remind you how far you’ve come. You got this!

Make it a Fri-YAY

As we get older, we seem to forget that we too are deserving of a treat because of tenuous reasons like, “it’s Friday”. So why not satisfy your inner-child and treat yourself on a Friday. It doesn’t have to be costly, or a big gesture - maybe you allow yourself an extended lunch so you can stroll to the park and read that book you never seem to have time for.

The point is, make space within your routine to do something that just brings you joy - no other expectations attached.

Check out ‘Friday Favourites’ on Instagram where we share some of our favourite things from the week.

Now have a wonderful week!
